Terms of use
Last updated 3 October 2026
These terms cover your use of the tarmacked app and this website. By using the app you agree to them. They're written to be read, so if anything is unclear, email us at support@tarmacked.com.
tarmacked is a guide. You are always responsible for how you drive. Follow the road signs, the speed limits on the road and the rules of the road, even when the app says otherwise.
Maps, directions and speed limits
The roads, names, speed limits, one-way streets and other details in tarmacked come from OpenStreetMap, which is made by volunteers. They can be wrong, missing or out of date. Directions, journey times and speed limits are worked out from that data and are given as a guide only.
Never follow a direction that looks unsafe, illegal or wrong for the road you're on. Don't use the app in a way that takes your attention off driving: set your route before you go, and keep your phone in a proper holder. If you spot something wrong, here's how to fix it.
Your drives and percentages
Roads are matched to your drives using your phone's GPS, which isn't always exact. Percentages, badges and scenic drives are for fun. Never drive somewhere you shouldn't, like private land or a closed road, to fill in your map.
Premium
tarmacked is free to use. Premium is an optional one-time purchase that adds extra features (currently scenic drives, the heatmap and your road rankings and records). It's bought through Apple's App Store, and Apple's terms cover the payment, refunds and family sharing. We never see your payment details.
We'll keep adding to Premium and won't take away what it gives you in exchange for payment, but features may change as the app improves. Scenic drives and map data come and go with OpenStreetMap.
Your data
Your drives stay on your phone. The privacy page explains what the app keeps and what it sends.
Our responsibility
We work hard to make tarmacked accurate and reliable, but we provide it as it is, without any promise that it's free of errors or always available. As far as the law allows, we're not responsible for loss, damage or injury that comes from using the app, its maps or its directions, including fines, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us for Premium. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law as a consumer.
Using the app fairly
Please don't copy, resell or try to break the app or the services behind it. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and available under the Open Database License, as are the road data and map files we make from it. The map's layout is © OpenMapTiles. Scenic route names are used to describe the roads they cover; tarmacked isn't connected with the tourism bodies behind them.
Changes
We may update these terms as the app changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Using the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
Who we are
